CPD seminar - “A Car Cannot Drive Itself!” - 18th April 2010

An invitation by DIDU to attend a CPD seminar

Whether you are recently qualified as an ADI or looking to increase your existing driver trainer knowledge, this seminar will develop a number of thoughts on how driver training as an ADI can be refreshed by a new approach or how you can appraise and deal with those clients who may challenge your abilities.

John, with his oldest first time pass - 75 years young!John, with his oldest first time pass - 75 years young! Our presenter, John Brown (ADI and author of “Driving is Turning Disability into Ability” and “Driving is More about Psychology than Systems”) asks you to consider the following:

  • Have you ever taught someone who inexplicably just ‘could not get it’ and you felt you had failed them?
  • Have you ever taught a perfectly ‘normal’ student and wondered why they did not learn to drive in the usual way?
  • Were you one of those who struggled either academically or to learn a new skill, but knew you were actually quite bright and felt bewildered as you failed to attain your potential?

This is your chance to explore some of the underlying reasons why some people struggle to learn to drive. It looks at the difficulties driving instructors face every day:

  • Find out about the specific needs of dyslexia, dyspraxia and aspergers.
  • Participate in workshops with colleagues on how to address the various problems which affect learning.
  • Ample opportunities for questions and feedback when we can share our experiences of both problems and successes.

Venue:-

Sunday 18th April 2010 9:45 am to 4:00 pm

The Premier Inn, Braunstone Lane East Leicester LE3 2FW - five minutes from Junction 21 M1

About John

John Brown spent his previous career in ordinary schools teaching children who struggled academically and were unable to achieve their potential until their needs were recognised and understood. They were not students with generic Special Needs, but those with Specific Needs in particular areas which affected their ability to learn in the way the rest of their classmates learned.
For those who have read John’s books, this is your opportunity to meet him and to learn why he feels so strongly that our lack of understanding can disadvantage those we teach. As a practising ADI John wishes to promote a deeper awareness of an area of our work which is often sadly lacking in ADI training.
