The DIDU Association's 2011 AGM was held in Leicester this year. There were presentations from Barry Kenward (chairman) and Alan Wood (Secretary & Treasurer), and useful discussions with members about all the current issues facing driving instructors today.
Barry updated members about MDT (Modernising Driver Training) and explained DIDU's input at recent meetings with the DSA and industry representatives.
Alan was able to present members with up to date accounts and deal with constitutional matters.
Cam, Ron, Vernon, Raj and Martyn were on hand to deal with member's questions, and there were lively discussions about many issues.
Our committee has represented members in many ways over the last twelve months. Some of the problems dealt with include:
- Pass Plus forms paid for but not sent out
- Test centre closures around the country

- Combating illegal instruction
- Problems with sensitive mouse at theory test centre
- Late instruction on independent drive for “English not first language” pupil
- Theory reader needed for SN pupil
- Test cancelled not re-allocated within the 10 day promised period
- Issues with spurious cancelled tests
- Fake ID with driving licence format freely available from the internet
- Can pupil use headphones on test?
- Corresponding with EU (Belgium) ADI’s about UK training
- Pupil attending theory test to find it had been double booked
- Is there really a need for continued updating of CRB / ISA?
- Driving licence enquiries in relation to having 6 points on D/L
- DSA seeking car parks to conduct practical tests – rumour or truth?
- Re-arranging CT with DTAM
- Assistance in gaining CT report from DSA
- Problems of theft of pupils by spurious company using very similar name as local driving schools
- Lack of interest shown by SE in SN pupils test – by not asking what type of SN etc.
- Request for extra time for autistic pupil
- Guidance on slander
- Assistance - removal from register

All in all a very successful meeting - thanks once again to all committee members who give their time freely and willingly, and to all members who attended.
