Annual General Meeting 29 November 2009

Thank you to all those who attended DIDU's AGM on Sunday November 29th.
Most of the committee and several members arrived in Leicester the night before, and everyone enjoyed a relaxed evening and a meal together. The Premier Inn was very good in most respects, but some stomachs thought their throat had been cut while waiting for meals!
The AGM kicked off at 10:30, with the usual formalities - apologies for absence and a brief summary of what was to follow.
Brief highlights of the day:

  • DIDU Chairman, Barry Kenward, spoke about how all members of the committee had contributed to DIDU's successful year, and how many of the members had played an important part.
  • Alan Wood (DIDU secretary) reported on DIDU's funds and membership.
  • "Cam and Sav""Cam and Sav"DIDU founder and member number one John Perrins was welcomed, everyone was pleased to see him.
  • A vote was taken on the appointment of committee members, and the new constitution was voted for unanimously.
  • John Fosbery gave a presentation on bespoke insurance for DIDU members, this was well received and could result in savings for all DIDU members. Watch this space for news.
  • After lunch, Adrian Lewis (DIDU member support) introduced Nigel Lacy of Young Marmalade. Young Marmalade are offering insurance and car purchase deals to new drivers, and Nigel's presentation was very informative. A lively discussion followed, and DIDU's association with Young Marmalade should benefit all members.
  • DIDU liaison officer Richard Grindrod gave a presentation on CPD, and how DIDU are actively preparing useful courses for it's members. There was useful discussion following this.
  • Adrian explained the new fuel card for members, which should help all of us in these straightened times.
  • At the close of the afternoon's business, Raj Pillay asked for members to show appreciation for the committee, who have all put in a huge amount of work on a purely voluntary basis.
