Continued Professional Development
Wikipedia defines Continuous Professional Development as: "the means by which members of professional associations maintain, improve, and broaden their knowledge and skills and develop the personal qualities required in their professional lives"
To the working ADI, this means that you will have to show evidence of further training in order to renew your ADI licence.
DIDU is representing you
CPD is being introduced gradually for every registered ADI. The process of formulating a working, effective and worthwhile system is now being undertaken by two groups of representatives from ADI organisations, which DIDU takes part in. These two groups are known as the CPD Working Group and the CPD Steering group. Meetings between the groups and DSA are taking place on a regular basis, and DIDU reports to members after each meeting, via our forum and this website.
DIDU currently has three officers representing the union at meetings. Executive committee member Jean Marriott is on the Working group, and Tony Pearson (DIDU Education & CPD officer) and Dave Thomas (DIDU NEC member) sit on the Steering group. You can also contact Tony or Dave personally at educationcpd@didu.co.uk (Tony) and forumorg@didu.org.uk (Dave).
There is also more detailed information available on level 2A of DIDU's forum. This section is for registered forum members who are not union members. Another separate CPD section exists on the forum for union members only.
CPD will eventually become compulsory, although the provisional start time is still some way off (estimate Summer 2010). A voluntary scheme is due to start this year, so please keep checking back to this site for updates and further details.
