ABOUT DIDU
Who started DIDU and why
The Driving Instructors Democratic Union was established in 2004 as a direct result of the introduction of the Hazard Perception Test (HPT) for ADIs. A small group of colleagues wanted to represent the interests of other ADIs across the country, not shareholders.
Continued Professional Development (CPD)
CPD represents the biggest change to ADIs for many years. Find out what DIDU are doing about your future on our CPD page.
Achievements to date
Just some of the things DIDU is proud of:
- DIDU is currently the third largest ADI organisation - intending to be the largest with your help.
- We are the only organisation to ballot its members on all important policy issues.
- DIDU is non-profit making. None of the committee is paid.
- Executive committee members are ADIs and elected by members.
- Members receive advance warning of meetings which the committee attend, giving an opportunity to voice their opinion.
- Minutes of meetings attended by the executive committee are posted on the forum almost immediately, providing the most up to date information for members.
- The committee do not hide behind Chatham House rules, so voting is transparent.
- DIDU helped remove the three strikes and you're out rule for the HPT, and helped reduce the cost of HPT (after the first free attempt) from £50 to £21.50.
- DIDU has been the only organisation to fight against the imposition of two in the back on check tests. We are also the only organisation to change the role play check test regulations - ADIs can now choose what subject to cover.
- We are the only organisation actively campaigning for ADIs to be able to appeal the decision of the DE or SEADI after a check test.
- DIDU has successfully resolved a dispute between an ADI and their franchisor. We have successfully negotiated free repairs with car dealers for two members
Future goals and aims
- To become the largest organisation representing ADIs.
- DIDU is actively campaigning against check test grades being published. We are also against the log book system becoming compulsory - many of us have better systems. We do accept there needs to be something, but not what is on offer from the DSA.
- We will oppose part two and three retakes for ADIs - who have already qualified at great expense.
- To increase the compensation when DSA cancels tests at very short notice from 1.5 hours to two hours.
- CPD - DIDU does not support any implementation which would result in an ADI being removed from the register
Thank you to every member who has put their trust and faith in the union.
